*Please note that this is a one year contract role. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigating complaints and non-conformances to ensure that the cause of the fault is understood, and preventative action is taken to prevent recurrence. Ensuring any non-conforming material is controlled. The graduate food technologist will be required to work on a wide range of tasks within the quality assurance department, assisting the Food Technologist to ensure that the system in place is in accordance with BRC GS requirements. This role will include implementation and update of systems.

Job Objectives:

  • Investigations of complaints and NCR’s to be performed swiftly and in accordance with the company procedures and policies.
  • Deadlines of tasks must be met.
  • Implementation of BRC GS in the organization and on-going updates of procedures in the company to allow for on-going BRC GS certification.

Key Functional Areas:

  • Customer Complaints – investigate and report on customer complaints. Ensure that these are handled quickly and efficiently and that they are well researched and accurately reported. The candidate must be able to communicate well in English. Ensure that preventative actions are taken in response to these complaints received.
  • Non-conformances – investigate and report on non-conformances. Ensure that necessary actions are taken in response to the non-conformance raised and that these are well communicated in the organization
  • GMP audits & day to day monitoring of GMP practices in the factory– conduct formal & informal audits of the housekeeping and GMP’s at the site. Report the results of these inspections and audits and ensure that action is taken in response to the issues raised.
  • Training – provide training to the factory and assist in updating & developing of training material.
  • Review and update procedures
  • Assist with product & raw material testing & environmental testing – ensure where needed that samples are sent to external laboratories for testing.
  • Updating of supplier approval documentation. Request documentation from suppliers timeously, check this and save it in accordance with the company requirements
  • General
    • The graduate food technologist will be required to work on a wide range of tasks within the quality assurance department, assisting the Food Technologist to ensure that the system in place is in accordance with BRC GS requirements. This role will include implementation and update of systems.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft office products (excel, word, outlook)
  • to Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in particular in English). Able effectively communicate with staff at all levels
  • Accurate and concise in work to ensure that information provided to others is accurate and clearly understandable
  • Good research skills
  • Strong administrative skills

Required Prior Learning/ Experience

  • B. Tech/ Advanced Diploma in Food Consumer Sciences, B.Tech / Advanced Diploma Food Technology/ B. Sc Food Science / B. Sc Biotechnology  or other relevant science related degree. Copies of qualifications must be submitted with a CV
  • Minimum 0 - 2 years relevant industry experience
  • Prior training & experience in internal auditing, HACCP, BRCGS standard will put a candidate at an advantage.
  • Proficient in working in Microsoft programs (outlook, excel, word)
  • Valid driver’s license & Own reliable transport
